With the Seahawks playing for their 1st ever Super Bowl win. I wondered how many teams in the NFL had never won the big game. Out of 47 completed Super Bowl games it turns out 14 out of 32 have NEVER won, which is 44%!! Almost HALF the league! And out of those teams, 4 have never even been to the SB at ALL. How can that be? I thought Free Agency was supposed to make teams more evenly balanced so everyone has a better chance to win it all. Baseball only has 8 out of 30 teams without a World Series Title. With almost half the league not having a Championship, sure makes sense why there are so many bandwagon fans.

Here is the list of the 14 teams, you might be surprised at some of the teams listed:

    Tennessee Titans
As the Houston Oilers, the team never made it to the Super Bowl. After moving and becoming the Titans, they lost the Super Bowl in 1999. Dont need to go into any detail as everyone on here knows what happened. Got to AFC Championship in '02 but lost to Raiders.
    Minnesota Vikings
Surprisingly, the Minnesota Vikings have been to four Super Bowls ('69, '73, '74, '76) but lost all. They made it to a few NFC Championships ('98 and '09) but lost both of them.
    Buffalo Bills
Probably one of the biggest drops from greatest is the Buffalo Bills, who made it to four straight Super Bowls from 1990 to 1993 and lost them all. Since then, the Bills havent even been to the playoffs since '99 (ironically against the Titans in the Music City Miracle).
    Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals made two Super Bowls in 1981 and 1988. They lost lost both narrowly to the San Francisco 49ers. What many dont know is the '88 team were favored to win, and night before SB, one of their best blocking RBs was caught using Cocaine and suspended. Then early in the game, one of their best defensive players broke their leg. Even after all this, the Bengal led the entire game until the final drive when Joe Montona drove down and scored.
    Philadelphia Eagles
Truly the biggest surprise to me with how large their fan base has become, the Philadelphia Eagles also lost two Super Bowls. They were blown out by the Raiders in 1980 and lost narrowly to the Patriots in 2004 when McNabb ran out of gas. Since 2001, the Eagles have lost 4 NFC Championship games (3 in a row from '01 to '03) last one in '09 to Cardinals.
    San Diego Chargers
The Chargers made it to one Super Bowl in 1994 but were blown out by the 49ers. They havent been back but have played in 3 AFC Championships they lost (two in '80s) and most recently to Patriots in 2007.
    Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers have only been around since 1995 and made the Super Bowl in 2003 but were narrowly defeated by the Patriots 32-29. They played in two NFC Championships they lost in ('96 & '05)
    Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks made the Super Bowl in 2005 but were defeated by the Steelers 21-10 on what I believe was the Refs blown calls. They have no lost AFC or NFC Championship games.
    Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl for the first time in 2008 and had the lead with under a minute to go in the game but were beat 27-23 when MVP Santonio Holmes caught the game winning TD. This game I really wanted the Cards to win. And personally believe the Steelers lucked out to get win, first from the 100 yard pick-6 by James Harrison at the Half, and that crazy Holmes catch. Since that game, Holmes couldnt pull off that catch again to save his life.
    Detroit Lions
The Lions have never made it to the Super Bowl. They have played in just one NFC Championship against the Redskins back in '92. Out of ALL the teams listed. This is the oldest of the never beens and the WORST run franchise in NFL History.
    Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns have never made a Super Bowl. Ironically though, they dominated the league winning a combined 8 Titles in AAFC & NFL Championship games. Since the title game changed to the Super Bowl, the Browns have made it to 3 AFC Championship games losing all of them to John Elway and the Broncos. Probably the 2nd worst run team in the NFL behind the Lions over the past 20 years.
    Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars entered the league in 1995 with the Panthers but have never made a Super Bowl. They have made two AFC Championship games but lost both (Pats in '96 & Titans in '99).
    Houston Texans
The Texans joined the NFL in 2002 and have never been to Super Bowl. They are also the only team to have never made it to an AFC/NFC Championship either. Not too surprising considering how young a team they are to the league. They did finally make the playoffs in '11 & '12.

After seeing this, anyone can see making the Super Bowl is truly a difficult achivevement. And having the best team in the league still doesnt mean you will win it all.

Seahawks, Texans, and Eagles are probably the only team on that list with bandwagon fans. Good research although the quote at the end ruined it ya girl..

I wish more average NFL fans knew this. They'll make fun of my Titans because we have 0 rings, but they don't realize how many other teams are in the same boat.

How? A combination of management and luck.

There's a reason teams like the Browns, Lions, and Jags (and us in recent years) are basement dwellers more often than not. And it all starts at the top of the organization.

The main reason I posted this was to point out how it can be very hard to be a fan of many teams in the NFL who dont have a Championship behind them. All this bandwagon talk got me thinking why was it so bad in the NFL. Well, now we know why. The Salary Cap, while seems good on paper, prevents teams from throwing tones of money at players to earn their City a Title like clearly has been done in Baseball. And leaves a bunch of teams hanging around the middle of the round or worst.

When you can't throw money at the problem, there does require alot of strategy and planning which requires great leadership. Which clearly is hard to come by for most teams in the NFL.

The MLB comparison isn't fair. There have only been 47 Super Bowls. The World Series has been played since 1903. That's 110 World Series.
