Are PSLs why people keep buying tickets?

Because that would be bad business practice?

Think about it. I could give up my PSLs now like others are doing. But let's say I want to attend games and I want to be lower level between the 40 yard lines. Ok, well for the next year or two while the team is not good I can probably buy those online for roughly the same price or less than I paid for them at face value. Of course now I've wasted a lot of time having to put in bids on tickets all year for the games, but maybe I saved a little money.

Fast forward a few years and let's say we are on a run similar to 99-03. There is no way I would be guaranteed to get tickets where I want them for face value or less. So I would need to keep my PSLs if I want to be guaranteed that.

So now you can counter and say they could have just sold season tickets and guaranteed if you bought them you would be first on the list for year to year. Sure. And that works for a team that is in Chicago or New York or anywhere where the population and fan support will be enough to guarantee ticket sales. For Nashville, it was a riskier endeavor. Bud/Titans had to guarantee there would be ticket support due to the market size, cause they want the team to be here and not move it again just a few years after moving to Nashville.

It is perfectly understandable why an NFL Franchise would implement the PSL policy. It's not the best for the fans, but it makes perfect sense from a business perspective. No NFL team or owner can guarantee continued success or playoffs every year to keep people buying tickets.

On the other hand, there were teams like the Colts who relocated and SUCKED.. yet they still made it just fine without ever tacking on phony charges to have the right to buy tickets. Indianapolis did not have the large fanbase for its first decade of existence, and Indy is far from a top NFL market, population-wise. Tennessee was MILES ahead of Indianapolis in their respective first 10 years of existence. 84-94 was horrid for the Colts. More and more teams are doing this.. not because they need it.. because they are money grubbing shysters. Even the poorer NFL teams are doing well!! These owners are multi multi millionaires, if not billionaires. I do not like the Colts, but when the Colts needed a new stadium, they got the money they needed from the state. They don't need to nickel and dime their fans.

Of course it makes business sense to take extra money from your clients, if you can get away with it, that doesn't really make it excusable in my book. And that PSL policy is going to bite them in the butt. From a shrewd business perspective, I can applaud it.. from a perspective of caring about your fanbase, it sucks.

"No NFL team or owner can guarantee continued success or playoffs every year to keep people buying tickets"

No, no they can't.. but that is their problem to face, and I would think there is a better way to do that, than to keep their fans' money hostage.

And actually, the big cities DO have PSLs. because they're B#star0s.
Only 3 NBA teams have PSLs, only 2 NHL teams, and 5 MLB teams. It's an NFL specific problem. The sport that makes the most, steals the most. All the other major US sports combined, don't equal the amount of franchises that "require" additional money from their fans to fund a stadium/ the owner's callgirl's "hush up" money.

If that's not proof that PSLs are NOT necessary, then I don't know what is.. Some of the richest franchises use it. Yet, under half (Cardinals, Jaguars and other poor franchises included) do not find it necessary, as well as every other major sport, for the most part.

NFL franchises (including Titans) just doing what they do best: trying to squeeze blood from a turnip.

From what I understood at the time, it was about providing a certain amount of funding for the stadium so the added taxes would not be as high. Obviously, Bud could/should have foot the bill but didn't.

Pretty sweet deal for the FO. Interest free loan that you never have to pay back.

I wouldn't call them phony. No one has to buy PSLs or tickets. It's an option. And it was a one time charge, I don't have to continue to buy PSLs AND tickets every year.

You just gave a horrible example because the Jags are struggling to stay in Jacksonville.

It's speculation, but its certainly possible Jags tickets sales would be better (with more people in stands) if a PSL system had been in place.

    There's the other part.

So we don't do PSLs. Bud isn't going to pay full price to do the stadium.

So either Bud doesn't relocate the team to Nashville in which case it's unlikely a franchise would be here today. Or the city raises taxes to pay for stadium and then everyone (in the area) pays more money for the stadium whether they have any interest or even if they were totally against an NFL franchise moving here (for whatever reason).

I also understood that at least some of the PSL $ went to keep the tax payer portion lower, could be wrong but that is the way I remember it. And I am done after owning two since day one...peace out. I will watch from the comfort of my man cave and go to a game when I like perhaps. I think there will be thousands of PSL owners just like me next season. Could look like a empty place next year....

IIRC the tarpkitties had PSLs, but they went the extra mile of greed and made them renewable after 7 years. Their bad luck the Titans walking into Jtown and taking everything they thought was theirs just a couple of years prior was still an open wound. Of course the tarpkitties followed 99 up with 7-9 and 6-10. A huge chunk declined too be buttraped a second time and, well, let the blackouts begin!

The beers sure taste a lot better when they're $2 a piece as opposed to $8-10. And my wife's an amazing cook to boot. No traffic to deal with. Etc.

When your team is this pathetic year in and year out, it's kind of tough to justify all that time/money/effort to see them in person.
