Depends entirely on the philosophy of Mr. Smith. We have no clue what that is. I'm hoping that it is something on the order of 'get the coaches and the players you need and don't worry about the cost'. But then, I'm an optimist until I see the writing on the wall.

The all or nothing attitudes make no sense to me. Either Locker is the all everything QB of the future or else to hell with him and send him packing.

There are teams in this league paying one guy $22M and that player could be lost on any play. Locker doesn't make much so what is the problem with keeping him around?

We can afford to keep Locker for 2-3 more years and get something out of him. We can afford to keep Fitzy around 2-3 more years as a starter or backup. And we can also invest a 2nd rd pick in a QB in this draft.

We could have 3 guys at different levels of their careers, different ages that combined would cost half what some other teams are paying for a star. If that os what it takes what is the problem?

I should imagine that the problem would be consistency. Hard to build a scheme on a QB-Go-Round.

I don't think many of us are necessarily against "keeping him around". The question is whether or not we are still viewing him as "the guy" after this season. To do so would be a mistake IMO. The guy just can't stay healthy and hasn't been consistent enough when he actually was healthy. And with this being a pretty deep draft class for QBs I'd like to see us bring in some legitimate competition (Fitz is a stopgap and not a long-term solution).

I just don't think you can pass up taking a stab at one of these guys in this year's draft class. Sure we'd essentially end up having "wasted a pick" (either Locker or the rookie), depending on who ultimately wins out. But if you FINALLY get your franchise QB out of it can you really say it was that bad of a move? With the new rookie wage scale we really wouldn't be out much from a monetary standpoint. It's not like these guys are getting 75 million dollar deals anymore.

That, plus it would mean a 4-2 finish to get to 8-8.

If we can finish strong I won't be completely pissed if Munch gets another year. That said, I'd still think giving him another year is a mistake as he's proven NOTHING in 3 years. But I at least won't be livid. However I just really can't see us only losing 2 games from here on out. We all know Denver is an automatic loss, then we have the Cards who are playing very well, and 3 teams who have already beat us once this year. I guess we'll have a better idea after today though.

So we draft a QB with our 2nd rd pick? That doesn't automatically change anything. Doesn't mean he will automatically be "the guy" either and would not have to play as a rookie.

If we draft AJ McCarron or Dereck Carr with our 2nd rd pick that means we go into next season in with this depth chart at QB assuming Fitz finishes well.

    Fitz age 31
    Locker age 26
    Rookie age 22

Seems like perfect planning to me especially when you look at the economic cost to have that. Locker could still emerge as that guy and we have a young guy for the future. Our Qbs have not been a burden to this team.

I think the concern with taking a QB early with one already on the roster, is more who you're not getting with that pick. If you pick a new QB, then either he or Locker will be sitting on the bench, whereas if you pick any other position they're likely to see the field. Not that I personally think that's a terrible thing, but I can understand why teams might want a quicker turnaround from 1st or 2nd round pick.

Look at the Eagles situation at QB.

Foles was a third rd pick last year drafted to develop behind Vick who has injury issues. Then they came back and used another mid rd pick on Barkley.

Based on the attitudes of some Titan fans they should have dumped Vick and traded their whole draft for a top QB in last years draft.
