Cool, I plan on eventually doing a "light" restoration on the Tbird. I like stock, and I could see adding a few things that could have been done when purchased new in 64, also perhaps changing the color to a Red on Red with a black convertible top. Things to add that could have been done as dealer add on's would be a set of chrome wire wheels, maybe a slight HP increase to help with the driving experience. Nothing radical, it was "suppose" to be 300HP stock, I would like a increase to 350 or so...it would help with the car ability to be used everyday. It is very heavy at nearly 4800 lbs.

wow, that is an extremely heavy vehicle lol. Mine is heavy as well at about 3000 lbs, but 4800? DANG!

I just decided to spend 600 more dollars to get new panels, quarters and door skins. He said he'd pay the other 500 because he just doesn't want to do all the bondo work and it end up not looking right. So I think I'm getting a good deal on basically a new body. I'm up to $5450 now though(not including the $2900 I paid for the car). These mechanics better make it a $8500 car!

I haven't had the guts to talk to anyone yet about the things I want to do....I figure 5-7 grand but who knows...depends on what they find once they start body prep for painting and such.

Almost seems too cheap for that work.

Yeah, they are only making about $1500 from labor on this job. But they are a new business and trying to get a good rep. I'm taking the risk of possibly having some guys who aren't as good as they say they are at fixing up cars.

IMO - which comes with zero $s

If your are gonna drive it on real roads with real people then let the new guys have a shot at it. If you are going for concorse awards then probably not the right move.

    But yeah...
    • rebuilt turbo 350 tranny w 2800 stall converter and shift kit
    • rebuilt 350 motor with headers, vortec heads, vortec aluminum intake, 750 double pump carb, and hydraulic roller cam(should get me to about 400 hp)
    • dual flowmaster exhaust
    • all new body panels(fenders, quarters, door skins)
    • metallic blue paint job

    All this for $5450...

Now they're trying to talk me into spending another $1700 on the interior...I'm thinking no on this. Interior is something I can actually manage myself, and I think I can spend a lot less than that on a couple door panels, a new dash and headliner.

I wouldn't worry about the rest other than making sure I knew exactly what I was getting in the rebuild, but the paint and body work would make me nervous... especially coming from a do everything shop. Have you seen any of the other cars that they've done?

    Have you gotten other quotes?

interior is where YOU want too be in the vehicle.

having said that its like the exterior in there is no need for something crazy if the grandkids are gonna be eating icecream in the back seats.

Interior work can be high $ though. Just what you want too put into it or expect out of it.

bottom line, as you know, any $s put into something like this has too come out in enjoyment cause those $s will never be seen again.
