I'll start by saying I've been a big Locker supporter but that slant pass to Britt really hurt my confidence in him. Granted it was one throw and I'm not going to let that one play determine whether or not he will be successful in this league. That being said, I needed to look to see if there was any hope left for him and where else to turn to a past Titan QB? I've heard a lot of mention of how McNair and Locker have fairly similar starts to their careers but it doesn't seem like it would be close at this point with McNair getting the big advantage. So I decided to look at their stats to see where each of them were after their 13th start.

It's almost scary how close these two guys are at the nearly same point of their career. McNair's 13th start came during the 7th game of his 3rd season, Locker his 2nd game of season 3. McNair had played in more games at this point 20 to Locker's 18. Win/Loss record is only for games they started.

Here's the breakdown of Locker's stats and McNair's:

I'm not saying Locker will turn into McNair, those are big shoes to fill in this franchise. They do think they share a lot of similarities though. IMO this clearly shows Locker just needs more time to develop like Steve did eventually in year 4. Steve had his worst year in his 3rd season and first full season as a starter but the Titan's brass stuck with him and it paid off. To be honest, if Locker posts the same numbers Steve did in his 3rd year I don't know if any of the fan base would want him back or if he would be allowed back as the starter in year 4. Based on past history though, I think the Titans will stick with Locker next year assuming Munch is back, Titans finish at least 8-8, and he post around a 80 QB rating, and a 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio. Will history repeat itself? I guess time will tell.

I hate that this keeps being said.

McNair and Locker aren't the same person.

    They play QB.

    They wear Titans jerseys.

    That's it.

For everyone that says "Steve started like this..." well, honestly- Steve never was that great. So even if Locker does become like Steve- who cares? One great season and then a lot of mediocre? I'll pass.

For this example, we could counter and point to 200 QBs that have started like Jake and never made anything of themselves in the league.

The sad thing is these threads will still be popping up two years from now with Locker no longer even being on this team.

There are more than 50 QBs that didn't pan out... wouldn't be hard.

For a guy that many consider the best player this franchise has ever had, that is a pretty bold statement. So what if we just cut McNair loose after his 3rd year and went in a different direction? He certainly had the stats to justify doing so. Do you think we make it to the Superbowl in 99? I get the sense from you that unless the QB plays like Brady or Manning they are busts. Well guess what, there is a reason only 3 or 4 teams have elite QB's in this league. They don't exactly grow on trees you know?

Who considers McNair the best player this Franchise has ever had?

I do think we make it to the SB in '99 regardless of McNair. The defense, STs, and Eddie George mostly got us there. Steve was merely a decent player then.

Doesn't have to be elite- but consistently good shouldn't be too much to ask.

Look at McNair's career. He was merely "good". Nothing special.

Playing "hurt" doesn't make you a better player.

"Merely good" is QB with 3 pro bowls, 4 playoff appearances, 1 Co-MVP, and a HOF nominee? You think O'Donnell takes us all the way to the superbowl in 99'? I find that hard to believe. If all we need is a good D, Eddie George aka Shonne Green/CJ2K, and STs to make then Superbowl, why are you even making a case against Locker then?

Would a Jay Cutler, Joe Flaco, Andy Dalton, Ben Rothlisburger, Carson Palmer or Eli Manning be considered consistently good by your standards? At this point that is what I see Locker becoming. Guys that can wow you at times, possibly take a team to a SB (if they haven't already), but they are going to be inconsistent at times as well and make you want to pull your hair out.

    yet you dont do it.

lets see the list of third year QBs with 13 starts that proceeded to 'not pan out' going forward

you said 200 of them I asked for 50.

    Im waiting ...
