I thought Jake was a little lacking, but I honestly expect that from him. He is going to be a game manager for the Titans. As long as we can run the snot of the ball and keep turnovers down, he should be fine. Unfortunately, that formula probably does not get this team deep into the playoffs. The step I would REALLY like to see Jake take is learning how to score in the red zone. That is his largest weakness IMO. Hopefully as his confidence grows, so will his game play. Great thread, thanks for putting in the time on this!

Ah...I'm starting to see the 'issue' is that people think we are running these patterns because that is our offense. Steelers D runs a zone blitz and that frequently means they have essentially a 3 deep shell though sometimes they man up the outsides but play soft so they don't get beat deep. They do play trap coverages, overload zones, etc to confuse the QB so the rush can get there or bait him into an INT. So against a lot of zone coverage, they are vulnerable to deep comeback or outs on the outside, curls in between zones and some crosses where we try and stretch the zone.

So gameplanning for the Steelers, this is what I'd expect. A strong emphasis on the run and trying to grab 8-15yd chunks in the passing game. I'm not watching the coaching game tape but from the stills, we definitely had guys open...which ishows you this was good play design.

The hard part against the Texans is that they are more multiple. I expect the titans to use more sets where both WR's are on the same side of the formation to better see if they are gonna be in man or zone. For those of you who think he can't read or doesn't read, he will HAVE to read the defense a lot more vs the Texans. Also, I remember Fouts saying Locker had to go to his 2nd or 3rd read at least twice (out of 8 passing plays).

I'll comment more after I watch the 2nd quarter.

Ya I've watched this game three times now plus the coaching film. Guys were open. I even stated that if this was the gameplan.. It worked to perfection.

Ill be interested to see what happens Sunday and get the film again to break it down. Locker didn't do a whole lot of reading in this game tho. He didn't. He would time the come back throws really well tho and the steelers failed at stopping it.
