The Titans have not made any final decisions on starters at center or at one cornerback position.

Coach Mike Munchak had indicated going into Saturday’s game against the Falcons that center Rob Turner and cornerback Alterraun Verner had the inside tracks over Fernando Velasco and Tommie Campbell to start the regular season opener at Pittsburgh on Sept. 8.

But Verner had a tough first quarter against Atlanta’s Julio Jones, as Verner was twice flagged for pass interference and surrendered a 42-yard completion.

“He got beat deep on the one ball,” Munchak said. “The penalties were questionable probably, some of the calls against him, but they were called, so luckily we were able to overcome those. But yeah, we’re just evaluating it, and we haven’t made any final decisions and will do so in the next few days.”

After the game, Verner said he did a poor job defending Jones on the 42-yard gain.

“Yeah, I’ve just got to play that a lot better,” he said. “I didn’t put myself in position to make a play on the ball. I almost had a chance at the end, but I should have been a lot closer.

“It’s all me on that. He didn’t do anything special. I just have to play it lot better. I’ve got to get my hands on him quicker.”

As for center, Munchak said Turner, who helped the first-team offense gain 104 rushing yards on 19 carries, had a solid outing.

“He did good. I thought the offensive line in general played pretty well again,” Munchak said. “Again, there are some things we have to get better at. But overall, we did a nice job.”

I wish Roddy White had been in the game. It would have been interesting to see how our secondary handled 2 badass WR's.

Well it's clear if there are no clear leaders by now, we are doomed at those positions.. I don't see how anyone can make their voice be heard in the 4th preseason game.

I'm almost positive Verner and Velasco get the starting spots. If they were gonna go with the challengers they would have made a decision already.

If he is I guess that would make the decision much easier.

Campbell has always looked pretty good...when it's not a game that actually counts. Verner is more proven and has actually made plays. If the challenger for the spot hasn't won it by now then it's probably going to go to the returning starter.

Turner and Verner win the starting jobs. Nothing to see here.

Verner actually did a decent job on Julio other than that one deep ball... he had some nice breakups and that was totally not a PI.
