You guys are crazy if you think that Steven's blocking and solid hands can be replaced by any old scrub off the street. I wasn't thrilled at the time he got the contract but he has deserved every penny even if he humbly said he wasn't worthy of it.

I like the guy but this contract was very random. He'll probably be cut next off-season when we have some cap issues to address.

A scrub off the street would probably accidentally be more productive.

Face it. Stevens sucks. "Ooohhh he's an extra offensive lineman but he can catch 1 pass every 2 games!" YYAAAAYYY!!!

    What that means is:

He's an undersized offensive lineman that can't play the position he might be good at- so he wastes a roster spot "blocking" every play.

He's a role player, and a very mediocre one at that. Worth every penny??! You're high.

I don't like either but you make a good point.

Of course my beef has always been with us drafting TEs so high anyway. It clearly isn't working out. Stevens is not full time starter material, Cook wasn't, if Taylor Thompson is going to be than why even acquire D.Walker?

Just bad planning on the position.

We picked up Walker because Cook was a FA who didn't fit the system Loggans wanted to run, Stevens is most likely gone next season as there is no way we carry his 4+ cap number, and Thompson is a 5th round developmental rookie.

Also if Cook could have blocks with any efficiency then we would have never paid Stevens like we did.

So we should never have drafted Cook, Stevens, or Thompson. I agree.

What is your issue with Thompson because I honestly do not understand it. We drafted a blocking TE with superstar athleticism in the 5th round. He wasn't a reach, he was picked at a time when we are transitioning at TE (which is when you want developmental players), and he is young and cost controlled so there is literally no downside to the pick. In fact if Thompson never turns into anything more then a #2 blocking TE and ST player (which is what he is now) then he is still a great pick because he was drafted in the 5th round.

I think it's a stretch to say that it would still make him a "great" pick.

My issue is I don't like drafting a player and then forcing them into a different position. Thompson was a DE in college. We used a 5th round pick on a DE that we turned into a backup TE.
