We are looking at cutting the cord to cable TV. We don't want to do to dish or direct TV either. I know if you have a wireless router you can use Roku or already have a smart TV with wifi built in.

What are you using to watch TV and are you getting the current TV shows?

From things I have read sports is the one thing that is hard to get.

If you have gone this route are you using these Netflix, Hulu or Amazon or all three.

well, personally I just live without, and will be using the famous website that gets passed around to watch sports games. Hulu seems to be the best option though.

I just use Internet. Stream and DL what I want to see. Do not use Netflix as it sucks hard in Canada. Thankfully though our copyright laws are a little lax and I can DL a lot. It is funny, most of the TV shows I DL I can tell were pirated in Canada.

In the US you have so much more. That Xfinity looks really cool. Maybe something to look into.

I'm in the process of going cable free. The real rub will be once the NFL season starts... I've watched every game in Titans history (other than that hurricane affected Saturday game vs. the Dolphins years ago). It'll be hard getting used to not having access to watching them every Sunday. I'll probably end up pussying out and re-upping with the local cable provider (Rogers). For the moment it's been fun to tell them to go **** themselves.

I go without. Cut my cable off 2 years ago or so and have not looked back. Saved me about 60-80 bucks per month. Did not watch it anyways. I never watched football or hockey at home anyways, always went to a bar or 2 hours to the stadium. So really, nothing's changed other than that I don't pay out 100 bucks per month anymore. I do have Netflix (which I would have cut off as well, but wife foots that sub 10 dollar bill)

I cut the cord back in December. It was surprisingly easy. I bought myself a good HD antenna (cost about $90) and put it up on my backyard fence. Since I live right on the shore of Lake Ontario, I get all the major American networks plus some smaller channels from Buffalo, plus all the major Canadian networks from Toronto. In total, I get about 15-20 channels (depending on the weather, some don't always come in clear) in HD for free. It's great for when I just want to channel surf.

I also pirate a lot of shows (the laws are less strict in Canada) and store them on a Synology NAS, which allows me to watch them on any TV or mobile device in the house using my PS3, a WDTV Live and Plex.

Oh, and Netflix. But that's a given.

Don't use Hulu (no support in Canada) or Amazon.

Try a little program called spotflux... it's a proxy server that allows you to view Hulu, PBS, ESPN etc from up here in the great white north. It can be a little glitchy, but you only need to have it on when you need it.

I've been going cable free for 3 years now. Wish I lived in a better area for the HD antenna. But the Internet has been good enough for me so far. Using a fast local indie ISP with unlimited DL.

I was telling my friend about this on the weekend. He already has something he is doing though. He runs a VPN through Amazon. It has the same effect.

Have not worked out which would be better yet though :)
