Titans head coach Mike Munchak said Friday he plans to spend more time this year working with the offensive line than in his first two seasons.

He said it’s something that he and offensive line coach Bruce Matthews – Munchak’s former teammate – talked about last year. Both Munchak and Matthews are members of the Hall of Fame.

Munchak served as the Oilers/Titans offensive line coach from 1997-2010, before getting promoted to his current position.

“I’ve been meaning to do it,” Munchak said. “As a head coach, I always want to be involved as much as I can in coaching … The first couple years was harder because you have to find how to manage your time. But I feel like I’ve got a very good handle on what I need to be doing on a daily basis and on a practice basis.”

This is a year of big change for the interior of the Titans’ offensive line. The team has signed guard Andy Levitre and guard/centers Rob Turner and Chris Spencer, and drafted guard Chance Warmack and center Brian Schwenke.

“I felt like this time of year especially when you’re in OTAs and training camp, I have the time to help,” Munchak said. “It’s something Bruce and I had talked about a couple years ago that at some point I’d like to do that again, even when I took the head job.”

Munchak said he expects to be interacting with the offensive line on a daily basis.

“If you’re not there on a more daily basis, it’s hard to kind of poke in,” Munchak said. “You’re creating changes you don’t want to. We’ll see how it goes. We’re just kind of playing it day by day.

“But I think it’s something I enjoy. I know he does. We work well together and we feel we can bring great impact on this offensive line this year.”

The offensive line, ravaged by injuries last season, did not have a good 2012. Tennessee finished 21st in the run game and allowed 39 sacks, the 12th-highest figure in the league.

Not really. I expect him to fail because he's in over his head. It took over two years to finally figure out the offensive line was awful. An offensive line that Mike Munchak said was good enough to win a Super Bowl.

Lol. Read this a few times to yourself and tell me you actually believe this.

Not saying our team isn't good... But "too good to fail..."

Sounds like a big load of crap

I'm glad that in year three, he's figured out what he needs to be doing on a daily basis....becoming a HC is a marathon, not a sprint. Slow down Munch, you're not supposed to know your daily routine until year five.

In all seriousness, he seems like a very good, genuine person. But he should never ever, for any reason, ever, be a Head Coach in the NFL.

In his first year he literally didn't know what he was supposed to do even 10%. It was clear from every interview he gave. At least he's picking up on a few things that might help us but it further proves that he has always been in WAY over his head.
