I went to a wedding reception where an arrangement consisted of a couple of betta fish inside a bowl with some kind of flower. It was very entertaining watching everyone watch the fish trying to kill each other all night.

Contrary to popular belief, Vick was arrested for goldfish fights. Goldfish.... on PCP.

Has there even been a turtle vs turtle fight to the death? Or do they just both die of old age?

Either way, it's a slow fight.

I was into keeping a aquariums as a teen. I even worked at a pet store for awhile. I have this odd, but I guess not too uncommon personality disorder/trait. I tend to go overboard and obsess on whatever my interests are (the Titans/Oilers, card collecting, cycling etc). Aquariums were no exception... what began as a 30 gallon community tank hobby, turned into a 15 tank life consuming pain in the ass. So much so that it turned me off the hobby for decades. Only recently have I begun to think about getting a aquarium up and running again. I bet a lot has changed over the years.

I had a little of everything during my peak... beginning with typical community tanks, with tetras, swords, mollies etc. I used to spend a fortune on ordering exotic breeds of Plecostomus and South American Angelicus bottom feeders.

Like every teen boy I suppose, I quickly moved on to more aggressive Cichlids (Jack Dempseys were awesome), Red Oscars, Puffers, Piranha (I didn't realize that puffers were aggressive until I introduced one into my community tank... I guess most people make similar mistakes). To punish the puffer I put him in with my Jack Dempseys... and the stupid puffer beat the crap out of them. It's the only fish I ever named... "Bufurd T. Puffer".

Finally I settled my main focus in on Neon Blue Discus and Clown Loaches. Breeding the temperamental discus and raising the loaches (who at that point had yet to be bred in captivity). I had many tanks of each breed, including two spectacular breeding pairs of blues and a beautiful radiant 7" clown that I treasured.

I still love both breeds and would probably go back to them if I started up again (even though the blue discus are an uber-PH sensitive pain in the ass). I had a few salt water tanks, but I never really embraced it.

Through the rose colored glasses of my memory, my blues and clowns were much nicer than these below (I wonder if that's actually the case). lol

I'm the same way. The problem I run into is I get so focused/obsessed on my 'hobby du jour' that I'll all of a sudden just get completely burnt out on it. Which leads to me being a bit of a jack of all trades; master of none. I really need to learn how to pace myself and do things in healthy intervals. But I tend to believe it's an actual disorder as you said.

E.G. I've played guitar on and off for nearly 20 years and I'm still not anything special. Because I'll start out just messing around then kind of hit a stride and go ALL IN... playing hours every night, learning all kinds of new songs and riffs. Then I'll get completely burnt out and go several months where I may only touch the guitar a handful of times. Rinse. Repeat. So I have to somewhat "start over" every time the bug bites me.
