I do not believe that Freeney is done just because he had a down year last season. He was injured for much of the year and had to play OLB which is not his position; people underestimate how hard it is for a DE suddenly start playing OLB suddenly. I would say Freeney is the best pure pass rusher left in the FA but for my money I'd rather have Idoniji still.

I think Ruston has a price in mind he is willing to pay (2 yr 4 - 5 mil deal) for any one of these three and he's saying here's the offer take it or leave it. My bet is one of the three will sign and he is using that leverage to make sure one of them does. The three are competing against each other to sign with a team because its obvious no one else wants them at this point. Genius move IMO...

I really like what we're doing even though I don't really want Freeney all that much.

It looks like we're going to evaluate all three (Idonije, Abraham, and Freeney) and make a decision to sign one of them.

I highly doubt we don't land one of them. I will be happy with any of the three. I guess I'd rank 'em (1) Idonije (2) Abraham (3) Freeney.

And I would hardly say Freeney is done. Done being an elite DE? Yes. Done being a solid pass rusher? No. He would still help us out a lot on passing downs.

Of the three guys in question I'd literally take the one with the cheapest price tag. All worth about the same in the field.

If we were looking for a starting DE, then I would say pass on Freeny. Even in his prime Freeny was never a good all-around DE, he was a pure pass rusher.

But since we aren't looking for a starter, we are trying to find a situational pass rusher, then i think Freeny could do just fine here. We would just be letting him do what he does best (rush the passer), and not worry about him getting tired from the rest of the game. I think he can still accel at that.

I think he could get us about 6-7 sacks, which is pretty good from a rotational guy.

I believe he's done. But if the coaches look at him and decide there's still something in the tank as a 4-3 DE, then I wouldn't be upset about it.

The Titans aren't jumping up to #1 overall -- and especially not without a 3rd rounder to include in any theoretical deal.

Hey we might be able to trade up to No.1 overall if the Niners somehow suck and are looking to add picks as they always try to do.

Ruston has a good relationship with the Niners FO.

I just re-watched what I thought was Freeney's best game in 2012 vs the Packers, and I didnt notice til just now how much slower he is. He lines up vs both Tackles and neither one seems to care about him, he just runs up field and gets blocked every time.

I don't see how adding Freeney helps us....
