Was watching a video on Titansonline, they asked if we're still pursuing any free agents. Ruston answered with a very vague, were always looking to improve our team in every position. But, it had me wondering, will we go after any free agents after the draft?

We don't have a ton of money, but theres still potential cuts of Amano, Washington, & Hawkins; which will free up some cash. This link: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/j...h-little-wiggle-room-to-even-sign-draft-picks claims we still have $6,340,792 cap room. However, the majority of that will be consumed by our draft class. Cutting Amano & Hawkins will add another $2-$3mil, which is really the spending money we'll have. Then there's the wildcard in Nate Washington, which could free up some more $.

We could still use some LB depth, CB depth, and DE depth IMO. At LB we do have 3 starters, but McCarthy is always injured and Ayers may see more DE time. Our only backups are Fouku and Gooden, with Shaw/Bailey being primarily special team guys. CB depth we have McCourty (a good #2 and average #1), Verner (should be NB), and then 4 young guys in Sensabaugh, Blidi-Wilson, Campbell, and Wooten. Could use a solid vet in there for some leadership and PS Wooten. At DE we have Wimbley/Morgan starting, may see Ayers in at DE. As for depth its basically Solomon and Edwards. Could use another solid rotational guy --- here's some names of available FAs:

    CBs:
    Sheldon Brown
    Jacob Lacey
    Quentin Jammer
    Cedric Griffin
    Marcus Trufant
    Rashen Mathis
    Stanford Routt
    Chris Carr

    DEs:
    Dwight Freeney
    John Abraham
    Israel Idonije
    Juque Parker-Thomas
    Lawrence Jackson
    Antwan Applewhite
    Jarvis Moss

    LBs:
    Daryl Smith
    Thomas Howard
    LeRoy Hill
    Chris Gocong
    Rocky McIntosh
    Will Witherspoon
    Karlos Dansby
    Brian Urlacher
    Larry Grant
    Bart Schott
    Takeo Spikes
    Bradie James
    Brady Poppinga

We only have enough money for 1-2 of those guys, if we cut Amano, Hawkins, or Washington. I'd love to bring in a guy like Takeo Spikes, he's old as dirt but is a leader and would provide depth. My #1 guy would be Quentin Jammer, he could be our #2 corner for just a year, maybe two, and allow Verner to play NB and the young guys to fight for remaining spots.

Excellent post. A good analysis of where we stand coming out of the draft.

The figure you quote. Does that factor in the dead cap space that would be generated after we cut them?

Yeah, I can't remember the exact numbers I found earlier. But, I remember it was in the $2-$3 mil range extra of available cap room. I know we're likely waiting until June 1st to cut Amano however.

The Amano one I can see having a lot of dead space on it.

A lot of old guys past their prime. I could see going DE. Abraham would be awesome for 1 year while we wait for Lavar Edwards to develop and if I had to choose 1 more it would be Rocky McIntosh as McCarthy insurance. Abraham could rotate in and McIntosh would just be a back up barring an unavoidable injury to McCarthy.

I know Freeney is pretty much done, but I'm surprised someone hasn't picked him up trying to put him back in the 4-3 system.

Webster was asked about Amano on the radio this morning and it sounds like we are waiting for Amano to be cleared medically before we cut him. He said he is still going through rehab now, but once he is cleared then they would address his situation.

I would try and land Freeney, Abraham or Parker and use them as rotational guys. If Morgan or Wimbley were to go down for an extended period of time then we would be in a world of hurt as our roster stands now.

I think we can find a vet CB or LB if needed closer to training camp.

That's what I'm saying. They were good back in the day especially Jammer, Brown, Mathis, and Routt, but I think they all are done. Wouldn't even waste the time bringing them in.
