A really good read analyzing all G's taken early recently. Basically, their success rate is a 100% and with our top pick its time to hit a slam dunk. As many of you said, it's a boring pick but I think that's what we need tbh...

Prior to reading this article, I was very open to the idea of going after a DE/DT since we added some OL help during FA. But now, I think I'm back to wanting Chance/Coop....

These are the G's taken early the article talks about - 2005: Logan Mankins, Patriots2006: Davin Joseph, Buccaneers2007: Ben Grubbs, Saints (via Ravens)2008: Branden Albert, Chiefs2010: Mike Iupati, 49ers2011: Danny Watkins, Eagles James Carpenter, Seahawks2012: David DeCastro, Steelers Kevin Zeitler, Bengals

Then again, I know there are a lot of G's to be had in the 2nd, so perhaps it would be wise to target D help with #1 and get a play-maker...

    In Rust I trust...

Lowest risk pick in a draft.

While other guys people are talking about us taking are very high risk guys. Ansah, Star are not can't miss prospects. Mingo and Jarvis Jones certainly are not.

I want Patton in the 2nd so that pretty much means we need to go G in the 1st. Rather have Warmack, but I would be just fine with Cooper. Otherwise if the scouts really like a 3rd round guy like Winters or Schwenke I would go Star, Patton, and Winters/Schwenke. So pretty much what I'm saying is I have no idea, but I really want Patton.

I think we in great shape to get BPA and meet needs. I think Warmack, Cooper and Warford are all 3 locks at OG. I don't mind trading back if we're offered because the risk we'd lose one of those 3 is small and the extra pick allows us even more options to again get BPA and need. I do think, however, we need to use the 1st round pick on OG.

I'm ok with Warmack at 10, love the idea trading down to 15-22 and getting Warmack or Cooper, and then have extra mid- late 2nd to possibly use to trade back into late 1st, move up in 2nd, or pick up additional need/BPA. I the FO did really well this year in FA to position us better.

I want the following players in the first 3 rounds. Obviously depending on what we do in the 1st round:

    Warmack
    Hunter
    Trufant
    Rhodes
    Demontrae Moore
    Cyprien
    Cooper
    Warford
    Patton
    Carradine
    Elam
    Woods

Some combination of 2 or 3 of those players with our first 3 picks would be outstanding, imo.

I really don't think a lot of teams will be trading up in the first round. I think the really interesting things will go down in the 2nd/3rd/4th rounds. There is no top-tier talent right now in the first; however, there are always stupid teams that reach for mediocre talent...I just don't think many will THIS year.

I think we should trade down a few spots and get the best player available on the board. That'll be Cooper or Warmack. Stockpiling a few picks in the second could go further than one first round pick (unless it's Warmack or Cooper).

The drop off from Warmack at 10 to Warford at 40 is minimal. But the drop off from someone like Star, Ansah, or Jordan is much bigger.

Wouldn't Star, Ansah, Jordan in the 1st and then Warford in the 2nd seem so much better than say Warmack or Cooper in the 1st and Okafor or Montgomery in the 2nd?

I think people are really underestimating the drop off between Warmack/Cooper and the other G prospects. Scouts are good at their job, the only other G even somewhat in the discussion is Warford. All of these LB's and pass rushers have huge question marks. We also have more than adequate guys playing those positions. The top two guards are can't miss prospects at a position of need. I know many of you have but I haven't forgotten last season, I won't be distracted from the task at hand. Take the Guard in the first, then proceed to do whatever the hell you want for the rest of this draft and for the next 3 drafts. Take all the flashy WRs, DEs, LBs, and CBs you want later but get my damn Guard now so I can have some peace of mind!

Logan Mankins, Davin Joseph, Ben Grubbs, Danny Watkins, James Carpenter, David DeCastro and Kevin Zeitler were all taken by teams that were in the playoffs the year before. It's a luxury pick by teams that don't have a lot of holes.

Branden Albert had added value because he could kick outside and play left tackle, which he's done since his rookie season.

Warford for all the hype about his run blocking didn't allow a single sack last year and stoned Sheldon Richardson a top DT who will likely be a mid 1st round pick. His flaws are his technique he gets by on brute strength and that won't always work in the NFL but he will still be one of the strongest guards in the league day 1. Jordan and Warford would be my dream.

I wouldn't say it is a foregone conclusion they will succeed obviously the success rate is higher than other positions but the value in return is also lower. Top guards come from all over. Nicks round 5, Evans round 4, Yanda round 3, Zane ,Beadles round 2 etc.
